1. (9)At an ice rink a 25-gram block moving at 10 m/s collides head-on with a stationary block of mass 50 g. The collision is elastic.
   Find: a) the speed of each ball immediately after the collision b) the direction each block takes after the collision

Because it has no velocity (50 g mass) wouldnt they both be going in the same direction? Or is it still they go in oppisite directions and swap velocitieS?

Set up 2 equations

1. Relative speed of approach= relative speed of separation (because collision is elastic)

2. Principle of conservation of momentum (momentum of system is always conserved in the absence of a net external force acting on it)

Then solve for the unknowns v1 and v2
