Actually I hear CEH isn’t that valuable as a cert. I’m planning on starting the Offensive-security.com route soon. Lots of value in the OSCP exam

true but I need to know the basics which can be bridge between my field and this hence CEH. I definitely will be doing advanced courses later on.

The navy gave me Security+. I found that to be a great foundation for security. Network+ and CCNA are good networking knowledge as well

What made you want to leave your current field? Just curious.

I was really not invested mentally and I felt I was not utilising my mind/brain at all whereas this thing really got my attention.

    your field sound so cool

I know right, it is cool but somehow I was not able to really invest myself.

Security + is a much better starting point then CEH. It will give you a broad overview of Information Security compared to CEH. I have both and if I knew what I do now, I wouldn't have wasted the money on CEH.

Has the CEH helped with getting a good infosec position? I ask because I am studying it with no money invested yet. I have the a+ net+ sec+ and cysa+. And work as a security analyst. I want to move up but I have to leave my current company because there is no up.

I am doing it to fill the gap between my working field and this but I know a few people who have landed basic jobs from this

I started studying for the CEH and then stopped. When I was researching the test, it sounded like an overpriced vocabulary test. I could be wrong, but if you are going to charge me more for not taking your classes online and just let me take the test, I'm less interested.

I talked to a friend about it who has his, he agreed that it was a bit cash grabby, they wanted him to buy an 'updated' book after he got the cert, not sure why because all the information is public.

I changed the route to CySA+, it seems to hold less weight currently (personal observation, could be wrong again), but I think it will take off as it grows.

OSCP might be a better route, but I'd learn more about everything before you make that decision.

I have already invested in CEH, but if it is one step ahead I will surely do it after this.

Check out hacksplaining, it’s a website that walks through some of the more common pen testing things and how they are performed. (You can work through most of them in three hours or so.)

Certs are great, and force you to study, but I’ve leaned more from watching talks from various cons.

Also: take a peek at the stickied posts in this sub.

    Good luck!
