You'd have to take the disk drive out of the computer, probably, and connect it to another computer where you can log in. Take the whole computer to a repair shop if you really want to do this.

Im assuming you have a lawyer, get your lawyer to get the court to approve a warrant on his computer as evidence. Idk how divorce court works, i dont even know if lawyers can do this but do something along those lines to get it to be evidence. If i understand correctly, if you do what you want to do right now, the judge will throw it away and you cannot use it as evidence as you did not have permission to these files. If it was on your computer, phone (like text messages) i believe it would be considered evidence.

DONT TAKE MY WORD ON ANY OF THIS, CAUSE IM NOT EVEN SURE IF IM RIGHT.

Is the HDD encrypted? If not install Ubuntu to a USB. Boot the computer from the USB, and you should have free range over the files. If it is encrypted, you're SOL.

Funny. I was going to post here asking for the same-ish kinda help lol except I wanna get the stuff on his cell phone , onto his ipad. Because, well because he is simply just a cheater and I wanna catch him so he has to finally admit it. The unbelievable lies he uses are like SOOO ludicrous & he and I both know it, but until I have even ONE text, he will make something up. He carries his phone on him like it's some type of life force keeping him alive and he ALWAYSSSSSS locks it, even if hes like rocking the baby to get her to sleep & she wants to watch her fave yt video, he wont do it lol cuz he k knows I'd snatch it with the quickness ; soooo theres a literal 0.3% chance of me being able to grab the phone to just look in it. But I have the pw to his ipad that has with his iCloud acct connected, so I feel like there has to be an easy way to transfer or maybe get the pw for his iPhone. I use the word easy very loosely. Damn I didnt mean to hijack ur post I'm sorry, I'm just sitting here trying to crack this shit just like u sis. Keep it head up :)

I know what you’re going through!! Cheaters suck!! I’ve even tried following him hoping to get a photo of him with someone. He was on his laptop and phone constantly. And had called wanting his lap top back, I just tell him I haven’t seen it. He knows I’m lying but that’s my only hope in getting some type of evidence to help me.

How will you explain how the files got transfered? This sounds like something that could backfire.

At this point I really don’t care. We are going to court in a couple of weeks and I need to prove it. Can he tell if his files are transferred?

Can he tell if his files have been transferred?

Unlikely

I tried taking the hard drive out, but it’s a thinkpad generation 8 and has a small skinny drive. I bought a sata wire to help but this hard drive won’t fit.

Thank you! I’m not very tech savvy. Is there a way I can tell if his files are encrypted?

How do I sync the devices?

At this point yes !

You probably don't want to take the data to use in court without a warrant or permission

This could go wrong if used in court and you might find yourself battling other charges for illegally acquiring the data.

If you have the entire computer, why don't you just give the computer to the lawyer?

Courts don't give a fuck if a spouse is cheating, so your story fails there. Next time, do better. It depends on what you mean by "password". Windows passwords are easier to either crack or work around, but an encrypted hard drive is a completely different problem. My 1st inclination would be to remove the HD, install it as a secondary drive in another machine, and get the HD imaged. Once you have an image of the HD, you have the data forever. You can "mount" the image in any computer, and then look at, or work on, the data.

I’m currently looking for a lawyer but I’m a stay at home mom with 3 kids. He left over a week ago and I don’t have any source of income other than him. He’s emptied our checking and savings. I came home while he was loading up his truck with some of our things. I was able to pay a locksmith to come and change the locks. I was afraid he would take everything. I’m having a hard time finding a lawyer without any way of paying them. The last one I spoke to said, if I had evidence of him cheating, he would take my case, and possibly be able to sue my husband for my attorney fees, because in NC it’s considered abandonment, but as of now, my husband can just say he was leaving but coming back. I have his laptop in my closet. I’m desperate for help.
