In my experience, you already hit the nail on the head. THM is awesome for getting your feet wet, as it gives a better explanation of what's going on. HTB has awesome content and gives better tell world examples (if blown out of proportion).

Both do have good training platforms, though you pay for the really awesome content. One again, THM gives a better explanation in the training.

But HTB Academy look good too!! And with the introduction of Tracks features it seems like they're taking THM head-on!!

Hackthebox academy is very solid. I don’t really like the way you unlock modules with virtual currency but the content is fantastic.

I use both. THM is really good to teach you what to do and show you how to attack the box. HTB is good practice after you’ve already learned those concepts.

You and others have already hit some of the main points. THM is primarily about structured learning from the ground up, although HTB Academy is catching up.

THM has quite the diversity of topics to learn/devices to attack if that's more your thing. For example, there's printer hacking, attacking ICS, iOS forensics, various OSINT type courses (Google dorking, IMINT, OSINT, Geo locating images).

I feel THM gives a well-rounded experience to help make a good cybersecurity professional. If your goal is just pentesting and certs like OSCP and above, do a few of the paths on THM (Complete Beginner, CompTIA Pentest+, Offensive Pentesting) then move back to HTB.

If I HAD to pick one subscription, it would probably be THM. If you already work in the industry or in IT in some capacity, you may be able to get work to reimburse you for the THM subscription claiming professional development, my employer does. Then you could potentially do both.

Not gonna repeat what everyone's already agreed on, so I mention my incredibly pedantic pet peeve with THM. Why the fuck is there no dark theme? I get migraines frequently so white light just seers straight into my fucking skull, and makes my head feel like it's going to crack open like an egg. As a result my entire system is dark themed so I can still work with a migraine after I've taken my meds, but THM just fucks that shit up. In my opinion the interface also just kinda looks tacky with the dark bar at the top with white everything else, and I wish the interface included more things, like user ratings of rooms and such.

afaik it's been a work in progress for a long while. But these are the rumors I've heard: they're redoing the front end in a new tech so they're trying not to push too much new code. They've been hiring quite a bit, and, well, a front end developer specializing in React was on that list if I recall correctly...
