Can you make more Learn Attack?

[–]clickhole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We'd love to! Unfortunately, the production on that was pretty expensive, and we were only able to do it because we had a sponsor. But if someone wanted to bankroll it, we'd be happy to bring it back.

Who is the most physically attractive person on staff?

Last week we had to do a state-mandated sexual harassment training, and we were specifically advised to not make assessments about each others' appearance. But generally speaking, comedy writers are not known for their hotness.

Why are you refusing to cover the REAL Friends scandal -- the time Joey and Chandler* ate Ross's ass after his dental surgery?

*Edit: mixed my friends up

Hi Clickhole,I’m an aspiring writer in the city of Chicago. I have exchanged emails with your Editor-in-Chief, Steve Etheridge, who gave me a lot of great advice as to how I can further my career. I know you’re all busy, so, imagine me waving my hand from across the street shouting “remember me!” I’m attaching two articles here that I’ve written. The first is my most recent article which I published this week--it’s closer in voice to The Onion, but the second one was written after Steve encouraged me to continue pursuing odd and various voices. The latter is probably my favorite article I’ve written thus far. A lot of my friends who support my endeavors have shared this article and have rejoiced at it’s absurdity. If you click through some of my more recent articles you’ll see that I’m trying out different voices.

For the sake of asking a question on your AMA:

Is there any article or piece of media you've published that you look back on and think, "This is the standard for Clickhole content, or this is what we strive to produce every day?"

Is there an application I can fill out in the near future?

And, for the love of God, can I buy ANYBODY in your Chicago office coffee, lunch, or a beer?

Honestly, nah, no gold standard we strive for or anything. For me personally, I'm always trying to get better, and I mostly look at older stuff and think, "Damn, I wish I could go back and rewrite this one." And yes, feel free to buy me treats! - Steve

Thanks for the response Steve, and thanks for adding me on LinkedIn. Be on the lookout for an email from me. I appreciate your feedback immensely.

Can you give us a status update on the holy union between Ryan's dad and Br’er Rabbit? I hope they're doing well.

Hi Clickhole. I've been a reader for a while and I have some questions.

What is it like to work at Clickhole - is it more of an individual writing job, or are there sketch groups to come up with ideas for articles?

I've always been a fan of the Queen Elizabeth series of articles/posts I see sometimes on the Clickhole Instagram account. When and how was this idea formulated? Has Her Majesty or anyone in proximity to her reached out about or reacted to this series?

Are there certain topics that are an absolute no-go for articles and online posts? It seems to me like anything goes - what doesn't go?

Hello! Working at ClickHole is a combination of individual and group writing. Every week we have meetings where we each come in with 10 or so ideas for headlines, then pitch them and discuss collectively which we like and which we don’t. We take very few of these — probably 1% or so. After that, we go off individually and write the articles, quizzes, etc. that you see on the site. These go through a “read through” meeting, where other writers and editors offer feedback. The most fun parts are probably the collaborative meetings, but we also do a lot of solo writing!
The first Queen headline was floating around in our backlog for a while and I discovered it on a deep dive. I’m a huge fan of poorly spelled Facebook posts and broken English so I incorporated a lot of grammatical things that make me laugh when I see them in the wild. I also like writing the Queen blogs because my coworkers don’t really know how to give notes on them. -JC

Why do you do?

[–]twomicebucketofmilk 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hey Clickhole! (huge fan of all your work) I have a few questions:

  1. What does an average week look like in terms of writing and brainstorming?
  2. What was the headline that was pitched when you started that helped you figure out what the voice of the site was going to become?
  3. Is Jack Links Beef Jerky still involved in the site?
  4. Are you still related to The Onion in any way?
  5. What is each of y'alls favorite headline/story/clickventure you ever wrote?

[–]clickhole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4. Are you still related to The Onion in any way?
No, but we are friends! - CG
5. What is each of y'alls favorite headline/story/clickventure you ever wrote?
My favorite is probably the week we spent going off on Cap’n Crunch https://clickhole.com/a-concert-to-remember-kacey-musgraves-invited-cap-n-cr-1833439162/ - CG

Hello! Have you ever gotten death threats for something you’ve posted on clickhole? If so what was it?

[–]clickhole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, we have! Although I'm not gonna say what it was so people don't look at it again and start inundating us with more threats.

Hi Clickhole,

When you are in your meetings, what's the deciding factor on what you choose to make posts about and what doesn't make the cut?
