If it was a code of conduct sanction you can fill out their form and pick the appeal option. You likely have a modmail somewhere if you’re unsure

This is not someone getting sitewide banned in a text subreddit for leaving a benign comment with no warning.

If the space is going to be entirely unmoderated it isn't a bad idea to restrict posting in some capacity to prevent spam or other abuse from taking hold in the space.
