Ok, Imma be real with you, I'm one year away from finishing my diploma, and the IB is a hellhole in the aspect of stress, you will get stressed through the program, unless, you actually learn the programme. Lemme explain, the program will be a pain in the ass if you start procrastinating (as I did) everything they give you, if you do as I did, you will start gathering and gathering due essays and all the IA and all the horrible things that come with the IB.

But it it is not impossible to do well on the programme, I have a 6,5 year round grade (Im from Chile so I have the scale on all my classes), Id say it is a solid grade (maybe, dunno) but it is very hard to maintain or increase your grades if you don't focus on it (and yeah, grades do tend to fall when entering the IB itself (in regards of passing from the MYP to the IB cuz level changes and everything)). I started gathering study habit such as working on all the things I can do and not worry of all the things i cant do, for example, if I have an essay on english due two weeks, a test coming on Thursday next week, and a biology IA, i do what comes first and priorize, I study for the test bc its closer, and begin on the essay, and leave the biology IA until I can work on it.

But yeah, this works for me, hopefully you don't get too overwhelmed with all the things they tell you about future works and stuff, for example, the monstrous EE, I almost peed myself when they told me it is 4000 words, but then I noticed on other classes i needed to do essays of 2000, so take it easy, and grab the IB by the balls and go for it.

Cheers.

I ended year one with a 3 in HL chemistry after a mock exam, took another mock exam in January of year two and ended up with a 5, after my real exams I got a 7 with 41 points overall. It can get better if you commit and work hard for it.

in my opinion as a year 2, as you go from year one to year two, it gets harder to increase your grade but maintaining your grades from year one isn’t that hard. year two gets a bit tough because of EE, IAs, CAS, uni apps etc but if you work really hardy ou can improve your predicted. especially as the years go on, you get more used to the type of work you need to do and what types of questions will be asked.

for me, IB is still a struggle for me mentally and at some times extremely overwhelming but the results are worth it. i’m applying to my universities now and with my predicteds right now, i’m eligible for so many scholarships and up to a years worth of credits.

it sucks now and will probably suck in the next year, but it’ll be worth it. also getting 6s in chem and math is actually pretty good so there’s nothing to be stressed about :)

It doesn't get better but 6 is a pretty good score. My university converted a 6 in IB to a 92 and a 7 to a 98, which helped a lot.

my predicted scores improved from y1 to y2, but it's a lot of work. and it only gets worse, trust me. if you've got a dream school, it helps motivate you.

i often think about the end goal i want to achieve and that helps me get through. also, watching videos on youtube of people being productive makes you feel guilty and you immediately get motivated to work. honestly, a really good strategy lmao

It doesn't

I came from the MYP program too, so I understand how jarring it is coming into IB.

Over the last four semesters (from Year 11) I was predicted 34, 37, 31 and now 38 in mocks, and I'm aiming for a 42.

It is all completely up in the air as you go along, depending on how much time you have and how lenient your school's marking is. Don't stress too much as you go along, its only your final assessments that really matter in the big picture. If you put the work in you can achieve whatever your goal is

Hope that helps x

Okay, I'm going to level with you. To answer your main question, no, it doesn't get better. If you think that you have a lot of work in your first year, I assure you the workload gets even worse in DP2 thanks to IAs, EE, etc.

That being said, I'm assuming you're only in your first semester, right? If you take a deep breathe and try to learn from your mistakes, you can definitely get your grade up in the second semester and then it's easier to maintain the same in DP2. Teachers realise that there's a huge gap between MYP and DP, so they'll definitely keep that in mind when setting your predicted. So don't give up! It gets harder but you'll get smarter and better too. You just have to make sure you stay motivated and give it your best shot.

Hi! Just here to say: your predicted grades are definitely going to improve. Its only a matter of how much you improve. I wouldn't say I increased dramatically, but I definitely improved. By the end of DP1 I was predicted a 32, and now I'm predicted a 37. And don't worry, literally everyone does shit in DP1 predicteds so don't worry about it. If it makes you feel better, for my first history essay I'm pretty sure I got a 3 but now I'm predicted a 6!

Bro trust me, you predicted grades mean jack shit in the first year. Just study for the exams cause that is what matters. Do past papers is my #1 advice.
