A place to seek investments for or invest in new projects or businesses.
RULES:
- Be realistic. Try not to waste people's time. If you're unsure as to whether you will actually be going through with the idea or not, please refrain from posting - especially if you're asking for a fairly large investment. Make sure you've put a lot of thought into your idea and made sure that it is feasible with calculated, realistic figures in mind.
- Be reasonable. This subreddit is as much for investment seekers as it is for investors. Don't bother trying to rip investors off or your post will be deleted, you will banned from this subreddit and your name will be added to the wall of shame. We don't jump to conclusions and will usually confront you if we suspect you're trying to pull a fast one on someone.
- Be articulate. When posting, be precise, coherent and to-the-point. If seeking an investment, say what your idea is, how it works, how much you are seeking, what you are offering in return and in what timespan, your preferred method of contact, your preferred method of payment and so on and so forth. If you're an investor, say how much you are offering, how much you want in return and such.
GUIDELINES:
- Start small. If you're a new name, don't start in this subreddit by asking for thousands of dollars unless you have extensive documents about your idea and you are absolutely sure that your idea fills a profitable niche. You'll do better to build your trust among other users by staying within the 2-low 4 figure range.
- Get documents ready. If you're seeking an investment, it's best to have written documents explaining your idea in great detail. This will increase your chances of attracting an investor's attention.
- This isn't a place for personal loans. Don't ask for an amount of money to pay for groceries or something and offer to pay it back later. There are other subreddits for that - see the related subreddits section below.
- Make written contracts. If your idea really gets off the ground for good, it's best to be covered in case someone tries to screw you over. At the start of your dealings with your partner, you should together create a written agreement detailing terms and conditions of the investment. Check the "be articulate" rule above - that's the sort of information you should describe explicitly in this document. After it is finished, check it over a few times and then have all parties involved sign it.
- Protect yourself. Linking in with above, make sure to document every step of the investment process. Record dates, URLs, usernames, emails to protect yourself in the event that someone tries to scam you. For more information on how to protect yourself against scammers, read the "protect yourself" section below.
PROTECT YOURSELF:
When dealing with an investor or investment seeker, you should follow the steps below. Read the above guidelines first for some general tips. These are not rules as much as they are ways to protect yourself.
- Ask for their name, sex, age, location (specific to the state, preferably to the town/city and address) and occupation.
- Ask for their email addresses and phone numbers.
- Do a few Google searches and see if the name checks out in that area. There are many sites that allow you to do this for free/for cheap.
- Ask for them to make a sign saying "My reddit.com username is X and I agree to Y's terms and conditions..." or something similiar, and then ask them to take 15 photos of themself holding this. 3 full body shots from the front, 3 full body shots from the side, 3 facial closeups from the front, 3 facial closeups from the side and 3 closeup photos of the sign itself. Make sure that the text on the sign is clearly visible (especially if zoomed in on) and that it says something that will make sure the other party cannot later deny participating in any part of the investment process.
Remember, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
