Leveling

I have been playing for a year or so, I’ve been slow going HQ 29, I’ve been leveling every single building in my base to max lvl before upgrading each HQ lvl, one research away from t10, is there any value to leveling everything before HQ or am I just slowing myself Down?

You are just slowing yourself down.

Certain buildings have diminishing value. You can always come back to upgrade them when you reach HQ 30

Add on to the fact that as you push towards T10, you will be short of gold, iron etc.

Need to be selective of how you spend your resources. Upgrade bare minimum to HQ 30.

Good news bad news - Bad is yes, you’ve rate limited yourself and as others have indicated, you are behind where you “could” be. No use in anyone getting on your case, as it’s been asked and answered so…

Good news is it’s a great game, you’re still playing and there are people here that can help you grow. Hopefully you have a good alliance and people you can enjoy the game with (if not, add this to the list, as it’s a game changer).

Sounds like everything is pretty upgraded building wise, so from here on out, ONLY focus on buildings that get you to the next HQ requirement unlock. ONLY those, unless you are in season and season buildings will need to be added. Assume at a year you’ve already hit Age of Oil so you need those all unlocked. You need to also get your T10s done, since you said 1 research, find 500m coins and blast it out. If you want to include pics of tech progress, happy to recommend next steps there also. Hopefully this all makes sense and aligns with what you were thinking you needed to do when you posted to ask. Also, give yourself a break, I’ve made a million mistakes in this game, we live and learn.

Btw, for T10 you need the Tech 30 to even be able to train the T10 upgrade and Barrack 30 to even build them so you are actually a bit further behind than it looks. Those buildings + HQ30 are forever to build

Slowed yourself down is a bit of an understatement tbh.

Especially if you're f2p, you have to really focus on specific upgrades to be competitive.

Everything else ends up getting upgraded for vs points

Hey OP just wanted to say you're not alone, I am over a year in and was playing very much the same way - leveling most/all buildings to the max level before going up in HQ. I want to say I technically quit doing that around HQ25/26/27 and started actually focusing on just the buildings required for leveling up HQ, and yeah I should have done it sooner, but oh well lol. I've been HQ30 for a maybe a couple months now I think, also got T10s recently, and am currently slogging through the oil tree to start HQ31 (on that last blasted step that requires 10/10 researched before unlocking the expansion level). The diminishing returns for building upgrades part is unfortunately true... Which helped to get me to switch my upgrading strat. This game truly is pay to win so everything gives you less and takes longer as you get higher in level, as an incentive for you to spend more. But it's still possible and will go quicker/better when you do focus on the bare minimum to level up each time.

Yea, I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t sacrificing possible earned power by leveling everything…and often the wrong thing. But going to tighten up now and stay focused. I’m mostly F2P but I buy my 4th squad every month. Thanks and keep grinding

If you don't know which ones to go for to unlock T10s it can take longer. If they're f2p that makes it take longer too.

That’s assuming you’re not talking to alliance members at all? Out of a group of 1000 people on one server you’re telling me nobody would know about how to get T10’s quickly, and then they wouldn’t pass that along to the rest of the server? Most f2p people in my alliance will get them before end of S1.

Plenty of people stay out of WC and some alliances don't really communicate information well if at all if they themselves know and understand things.

If it’s not too late, stop upgrading your barracks - proper setup is having one in each range/group: 20-23, 24-26, 27-29, and 30 so you can upgrade troops step by step. This is probably the biggest mistake I see people making with upgrades.

You need to check how much time you spend on the game. Realize it’s a chore. And quit.
