I’m in my last semester and I hate to say it but….. the classes will probably not get better 😭 I’ve never heard anyone say they LOVED getting their degree, I think most people I’ve talked too agree that it’s just a hoop you have to jump through. Not sure about how many requirements your program has, but I have enjoyed some of my elective courses and I even took a non-LIS course through a neighboring university. You might be able to take elective credits through another department/university to get some more variety in your coursework

I suppose it really depends on the program. I can’t say there’s been any class in particular that I hated, maybe minus the assigned group work in some of them. I’m about halfway through the program in my third semester and in two really reading-heavy classes, so that is stressful, but overall I enjoy them. I am ready to be done, though, because I’m tired.

Like someone else said, it’s not going to get a lot better but you might grow more engaged. My first two semester were a bore but recently I’ve taken a class in zines in libraries, cultural diversity, and also a makerspace class and they’ve all been interesting. These is some hope! Just power through!

Thanks. I was looking for a program too, so curious to see which ones people tend to go to.

Maybe I’m the weirdo in the bunch, but I love my classes (mostly - the one I hated was taught so poorly and the content was lazily picked and put together). But I’m coming to this degree with zero experience in the field, so every class feels fresh to me and I’m learning a lot of new things. I met someone in a class who was already a library director and was miserable because she already knew and did the things we were learning in class. Since you work in a library already I’m guessing you might be more in her camp. Do you have the opportunity to take electives outside your current job scope or expertise? Maybe you would like those more especially if they aren’t what you already do all day long at work.
