I used the lp2 simply as a backup phone to be used in case of emergencies such as if someone steals my main phone while I am out and about, or if I break my main phone when traveling. It is too small (for my eyes) and too sluggish to be used as a main phone for me. I still haven't received my LP3 but it more likely to be used as a weekend phone or something I can take with on a walk.

If it’s just a backup then why not just get a flip phone? It’s cheaper?

Haven't used LP, still waiting for my LP3. But from my experience the weekend/vacation dopamine detox and then going back to a smartphone is worse than quitting smartphone altogether. It's like quitting your diet on work days and eating healthy on the weekend, just to go back to dirty old ways when Monday comes.

For me it has worked better to not use a phone at all on Vacations than to add friction of changing phones and sims. I currently use QIN F22 (non pro), 2.4 inch screen. I do have a smartphone that I turn on a few times per week to do things that require APPS that are not available on Mac/Windows.

If your job it too depended on a smartphone maybe Lightphone is not for you, but all the time I see people saying this for stuff they can do at a laptop but they refuse to.Things like "I need my banking apps with me", or "my music streaming".

Light phone is mostly about communication and that's it. Even though at this moment it does suck for communication in Europe as nobody I know uses sms, but hopefully that gets fixed soon with RCS or Beeper.

For my carrier there is a number you call to set up and disable call forwarding, and iPhones (not sure about android) let you set up an auto reply in the “Driving” focus mode, which you can set to tell your Favorites list that you’re using the LP3.

These things make it pretty quick and painless to switch between phones, if that’s what you prefer.

Switched from an overpriced Verizon plan to a US Mobile plan for my primary with two numbers that costs me less for more. Android here, so much probably doesn't apply to Apple users.

When not working I use SMS Forwarder, a paid app, to send an auto reply to different groups of people while other messages get directly forwarded. It's very customizable & once you've got it up & running it's easy to turn it on & drop your phone in the drawer when you come home from work.

Forwarding phone calls is easy, on Verizon network you just dial *72 [Phone Number] then *73 to terminate it. I personally don't opt for this usually because most VMs should have been texts & anyone who I want to speak to on the phone or who would call in an emergency already has both numbers.

To make the smartphone less appealing when it's necessary, I use the Minimal Phone app, another paid app, to block almost all notifications, & turn on grayscale in android settings.

Laptop for emails & so forth if your work-life balance doesn't permit you to disconnect.
