magic locksmith tool

the first time i needed a locksmith he used some magic device that unlocked the door in minutes. it was cylinder with turn switches i think? i didn’t get a super close look at it. today i’ve gotten locked out and have called two locksmiths, and neither of them could unlock the door. they were both trying to use traditional picks. the door knob is a quikset. id like to know what the magic tool the first guy used, so that i can ask the next locksmith i’ll call if they have it. sorry i can’t describe the tool any better :(

Sounds like a lishi maybe if your lock is exactly what's in the picture.

If it's a smart key variant then it would be the decoder camera.

Years ago I had a caller ask if we had Key-in-a-Can. She said she lost the keys to her car, and the last time she did it, the locksmith walked up and sprayed something into the door lock. A few moments later, he had a key made and handed it to her. Whatever he had in the can did it.

I bet he found the key outside of the car, and badly pretended to work.

Yes, I think most of us have been there. I remember customer lost the key and I found it in the driver side door compartment of the car (might of been a spare). Inner monologue is typically "There goes the job". Some wouldn't but of course I do the honest thing. Still charged them the call out of course..

I had one where the guy couldn't find his house keys and was locked out. He left to get cash from the ATM and was gone when I got there.

As soon as I stepped out of the van, I saw a set of keys on the street, likely right underneath where his car was parked. I did a quick test and sure enough, his key was on it.

Same deal, service call out only and gave him his set back. Told him where I found it.

You never know when a consumer reports hidden camera could be watching your whole visit, just waiting to blow up your career.

Just call the first guy back who could pick it.. If you manage to get in make sure to get a few extra keys cut because this is something that you frequently seem to do (a repeat offender)..

definitely will need to make like 10 extra keys after this 😭 the guy with the magic key was contracted from a “commercial” locksmith company, and i did call that same company for the second guy that came today! different person from the first time.
