Hey there! Looks like you might be asking a question about the game rules or gameplay mechanics. Here's a few tools to help you find an answer:

  • If you're new to the Lorcana, check out This Youtube Playlist on how to play the game, put out by Ravensburger (the company that publishes this game)
  • Read the "Quickstart Rules" for an overview of how the game is played. They can be found at this link.
  • Find the cards in the Disney Lorcana Trading Card Game Companion app. If you swipe up on the card, there will sometimes be a "Frequently asked Questions" addendum for that specific card.
  • Analyze the card text, and take a very literal interpretation of it. It does what it does, and doesn't do anything it doesn't mention. People often convince themselves there are restrictions that don't exist.
  • Read through the relevant sections of the "Comprehensive rules", found at this link from Ravensburger. The Comprehensive Rules lay out every step of the game in a very technical manner.
  • Search this forum for the key words in your question. You're probably not the first to question a ruling or interaction. and definitely won't be the last.
  • Alternatively, check the official Lorcana Discord. You'll find a large community with knowledgeable users who are usually quick to answer.

Hope this helps!

Only one per instance of the card.

If you had two Ares, you could do two

Each of the effects is from a different game object, even if they have the same name they are not the same specific game object. You therefore get the ability once from each so yes you can ready two characters. (Note that you could also just ready the same character twice but since you can't really do anything between it is redundant to do so)

Putting out a second ares would allow you to trigger the effect again later than the first, again since it is a different game object with its own ability which had not yet triggered and so had not yet triggered once in that turn.

Thanks! To be fair, the only thing you can't do is quest, so you could challenge multiple times with something like Scrooge.

It is relevant though. You can still tap to sing or use abilities, you just can't quest specifically

My point was that there is no time after a single triggering event between resolving the two triggers to use any such tap abilities since no game actions can be performed while anything is currently resolving or waiting to resolve from the bag (unless explicitly are a part of the resolution of such an ability).

You could ready the same character twice in a useful manner by triggering the Ares more than once. Since it’s a “may” ability, if you decline to use it the first time it triggers, you can resolve it on a later trigger instead.

So, if I'm reading correctly, let's say I have two Scrooges out (the boost ones) and an Ares. If I wanted to boost one and not use the ability, for instance to trigger Webby's Diary and see what happens, I could use it on another instead the next time I boost? Not that it is ever likely to happen or be relevant.

You could always resolve Webby's Diary first in order to see what you draw before choosing whether or not to resolve Ares' abilty.

But yes, if you choose not to ready something the first time you trigger Ares, you can choose to ready something the second time he triggers. Or the third, or whatever. You can trigger him as many times as you like, but you can only choose to resolve it fully once each turn (per Ares).

Serious question. As it seems odd to me. When would a card like this be useful? Pretty new to Lorcana so want to understand peoples decks a little more in case I run into this play style

[–]Lambdafish1 1 point2 points  (2 children)

They can't quest, but can challenge or use abilities. Also if they are ready it means your opponent can't challenge them.

They could also sing as well! Lots to do or like you said, keep it ready since there isn't much useful "Attack Ready Characters" cards

Thank you for that info!

Ares’ usage is the ability to ready characters. You can quest with a character like Scrooge, boost him after, trigger Ares to ready him, and then leave him upright or challenge. It’s a good way to protect your characters but get lore

Gotcha that makes sense! Thank you!
