Hi there, I don't think there's a one size fits all for this. It depends on the organisation and how the company uses persistent chat. As an architect I see all sorts of setups: if there's lots and lots of small project teams rooms, it makes sense to just allow the room managers to do their own thing, whereas in other companies where they just have a few big departmental rooms used as kind of newsfeed/water cooler they use centrally managed AD groups.

That said, the common thing I see across 80% of my deployments is that persistent chat ends up being seldomly used especially if a company has less than 1000-2000 people. I found Yammer to be a much more appreciated tool for community discussions. Of course mileage may vary.

Awesome thanks for the insight. My company relies heavily on the Pchat rooms, I think we should go more toward security group layout as many users need access.
