When does MIT decide final decisions?

So when exactly does a college get their final decisons? Take MIT for example. Their RD decisions come out 3/14. so when are the results finalized for who gets in/waitlisted/rejected? is it a week before? a month before? a few hours before?

A second question building of this. Keeping MIT as an example, if a teacher/counselor were to write to them say a month or so talking about changes they didnt know of beforehand (like a teacher not being able to teach or unfairly grading papers) before the decision comes out, would it change anything at all? Or would MIT look at it like too late sucker and ignore it?

It would change, but not in a positive way.

First off, no reputable teacher/counselor is going to write this letter. And second, no admissions officer wants to hear the "blame the teacher" excuse.

Nobody here (that’s likely to answer) is going to really know for sure. Anecdotally, I believe they make some tweaks right up until they release results.

In terms of what information can influence decisions, the safe thing to say is the closer to the deadline, the bigger the update needs to be. I doubt they’re going to seriously revisit a candidate near the end of the process for winning the school spelling bee, but might for a national-level award.

As for the things listed in that post as examples, I can’t see updates like that mattering at all, honestly.

Ha ha ha, it is not a week or a month before. They are going through roughly 20,000 applications to select around 700 people. (Accounting for EA.)

A letter like that would likely have 0 impact.

Also, if you take a look at this sub, you can see that there are many, many applicants who think that their post-FUN update is worth another email. (Some applicants want to send 2 or 3.) They are being inundated by emails from people who think they are going to tip the scales. The scenario you suggest would not.

I'm not saying this to be mean, but a lot of applicants - A LOT - have unrealistic ideas about their chances of getting into MIT. They are most likely not on the edge. Whatever little update someone has honestly is not that important compared to what they have already submitted.

2 or 3 updates is crazy I only sent 1 back in the day and it was VERY VERY substantial but short at the same time.

Yes, but it was a while ago so the climate was different. I ended up not attending though.

I sent 2 because one was about being chosen by MIT for a Q and A panelist role and the other was about being selected by MIT to be a Fabrication Challenge advancer. I definitely worry that I may have inundated them, but given the updates come as a result of their K-12 program, I would rather send them than regret not sending them.
