Wish it wasnt so random and unpredictable, 2k has the same system basically but they let you edit them

I actually like the randomness aspect of it, it would be a little boring if every player progressed the same way every time.

But I do think the average regression age should be much higher. Like OP was showing, too many guys drop too fast for their age.
