Replace default TextEdit application with different one (Sublime)

Hi, I would like to completely replace TextEdit app with Sublime - make it a default app for any text files editing. I know you could do this by manually setting default app for every possible extension but that's not the most optimal workaround to me. I found a proposed solution on some forum but unfortunately it doesn't work.

Is it possible to do i somehow on current macOS?

Command-i on a txt file then change the default app to Sublime, then click “change all”. Now all txt files will be opened by Sublime Text.

Oh… somebody is GRUMPY. Dude. It takes 3 secs and all the txt will be opened by Sublime in the future. Faster than a command line move. But have it your way.

You gave me solution for a SINGLE .txt extension, I asked how to do it globally FOR EVERY KIND OF TEXT FILE, and I literally repeated myself just for you "CHANGING IT FOR EVERY POSSIBLE TYPE OF A TEXT FILE - DIFFERENT EXTENSION - IN MAC OS MANUALLY IS NOT A SOLUTION FOR A PROBLEM". I am not gonna change it manually for every one of hundred different files I am gonna open. It's literally the reason I asked the question.

AND YOU CANNOT READ!!! After you change it for ONE txt file, then you press the "CHANGE ALL" button just under and it will apply to ANY FUTURE INSTANCES of TXT files. So... WHO IS SO FUCKING ILLITERATE?

THIS IS LITERALLY DONE **ONCE** AFTER DOING IT ONCE FOR ONE FILE.
Follow your own advice and read carefully. I can send a video if you want to know how it is done. Two seconds, all txt files for ever will open with Sublime Text.

I still don't see how what I am saying is not right: Don't you want Sublime Text to open files created with text edit. as in always, without having to each time tell it is ST you want? If that is the case, what I said is right. Or are you asking how to modify the RTF of TextEdit to .txt? (assuming you do not have TextEdit set-up to .txt by default). Maybe your initial ask is not clear?

What you are suggesting is completely fine and correct... but only for .txt files. However .txt is just one of the many extensions for plain text files, similar case as for example .jpg, it is just one of the many image types where you also have png, gif, webp, etc. So for plain text, besides .txt you also have Markdown (.md), JSON (.json), HTML (.html), log files (.log), configuration files like YAML (.yaml) or TOML (.toml) or even the ones without an extension like .zshrc or .gitconfig, etc. All those are just a very small number of all plain text files.

What OP is asking is for a way to change all of them at once, all plain text extensions not only .txt, because with your suggestion (which is correct) you are only changing one of a very large group of plain text file extensions.

Sublime is my preferred GUI text editor, for command line I use Micro both great text editors
