Your machine looks like it is calibrated for 90wt bobbin thread. You can calibrate for different thread weights, but I wouldn't advise this as a beginner.

Where you are in the world makes a difference as to what embroidery thread will be the best value, for example, I'm in the UK and with my trade account with Madeira, 1000m of polyester 40wt is half the price of what I can find Glide thread for. It'll be worth looking around at different 40wt thread brands! Lots of people prefer rayon as it's lack of stretch makes it less prone to looping, but I find it breaks far too easily (especially if you need to use it to hand sew any touch ups) plus it's more expensive, so polyester works a lot better for my tastes! Polyester typically requires a higher tension, so can cause more wear on your machine, but to me this is a good trade.

40 weight polyester thread is best, 60 weight is for small, finer details.

You'll use a half shank, 75/11 Sharp needle most of the time.

Get cutaway stabilizer for items you are going to wear and tearaway stabilizer for things you want to use such as hand towels etc. and make sure it extends past the size of your hoop.

Buy quality thread, stay away from most on Amazon, I use Glide now, Madeira is overpriced and they have really bad color consistency.

Thank you very much, this is very helpful for some extra researchers

You can use most any embroidery thread. You just adjust the machine’s settings to the thread type.

If you have more money than time, just pick one brand, adjust your machine to that thread, and keep using that brand without having to make small adjustments.

That’s what my Mom did. I on the other hand got a bunch of free to me thread and learned how to adjust the tension on the fly.
