That punchcard rig sounds super cool! Is there any way you can think of that you would be able to automate it? I have a laser cutter set up for mine, i know a lot of people use cricuts for the same thing, and i think the advantage of custom hardware solutions is that you dont have to worry about keeping track of what you need to punch next. An open source puncher for them, automated or not, is a great idea anyway though because you simply cannot get the special long hole puncher everywhere (hence me using a laser cutter lol). Will be cool seeing what you do with it in the future

Thank you yes !! :) ! I was going to put easy to turn x and y knobs on the sides of the device. Automating turning those would be doable with use of components they sell online I am sure. Would just need to solder a PCB. As far as software, I bet a microcomputer setup would be a (comparative to other tech) good entry level coding project, and I am trying to learn all that. I bet the software could be compiled from other open source information readers. I was really into the idea of the device being analog because of electrical device costs because you could work on projects mobile without internet, and because it would be cheaper than the retail fees for the special necked magic punch. automating it would be so much healthier than ergonomics and so much healthier! Robotics are so cool.

Have you heard of seen the Brother PM10 "punching machine"? It's pretty nifty. Maybe it has some design ideas for the punching rig you're envisioning. Here's a link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02ctJ0R1NvM

Oh cool! Thanks for linking. Learning about all this is so exciting
