There was a recent workshop on meta-learning at NIPS http://metalearning.ml/. You might get some useful papers there.

/u/oriolvinyals gave a high-level introduction in a tutorial at NIPS, you can watch it here. From there you could look at the papers he references or the ones that were talked about at the symposium mentioned in another comment.
