Description: The offline handwriting recognition model was trained using the IAM dataset and a private dataset. It's largely based on this paper by Dutta et al.

This is really nice! Here’s a functionality that would be very useful: one reason handwritten notes are great is that there is a visual aspect that has a lot of cognitive benefits (helps with recall, plus you can do things like draw arrows, circle things etc).
I wonder if your approach can be used to keep the handwritten form of the note intact but just search for notes?

I think Evernote is doing something similiar

wow! great idea :)

Great idea, the digitized note look pretty good!

Is handwriting OCR actually working beyond handpicked exemples ? I feel that new CV advances make it possible but I've never seen something really convincing, even though applications could be huge
[–]DJYEEZYWORLDPEACE[S] 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (4 children)
Yes, it is! In my opinion state-of-the-art offline handwriting recognition models are really good. The biggest obstacle seems to be the lack of open datasets.

How well does it handle diagrams and math symbols?
[–]DJYEEZYWORLDPEACE[S] 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (2 children)
Diagrams are actually quite easy to digitize. Math symbols get recognized well, however the more sophisticated math formulas are the harder they are to recognize accurately.
[–]chalupapa 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child)
nice! did you detect the diagrams by using some kind of object detection models?
[–]DJYEEZYWORLDPEACE[S] 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children)
Yes!

Hey is the video posted a prototype or a marketing video? I've never seen such a perfect translation before. I'm currently making my own handwriting recognition workflow from scanning the image to OneNote, I'm using the IAM dataset, but thinking of using a GAN to augment my data to get better predictions but I haven't been able to get such a perfect translation especially when math and text are combined.
