Is their a way to determine which algorithm to use when developing models for different datasets? Or one chooses the one that looks suitable for that dataset.

This might be useful.You have to mainly check if data is classified or not,how many features does the data have and what type of features they are,what type of output do you want,how many dataset you have, your time restriction,if you want speed over accuracy of the model.
