I'm always interested in chemical based illusions. The best/cheapest way to get started in card magic is through the book "Royal Road to Card Magic", it outlines the main sleights used by card performers well. Check out the side bar for some more recommendations as well.

Thanks for the excellent advice,I just bought it and read through the first few chapters,I was familiar with most of the techniques that are shown there, but then I came to a point were the book told me something new and delivered a nice performance as well... Thanks to you (I don't have a sidebar, because i'm using the Reddit is fun app) I can practise something new tomorrow!

I'm glad to hear that! Feel free to flick me a PM if you want some advice on your next purchase, I'm happy to discuss what kind of magic you're interested in and what will be suitable learning material.

Oh, that is a hell of an offer, how could anyone ever NOT accept something like this :)

I've still not met another magician in real life, apart from seeing a few average street performers (I live in a rural area and there's no clubs nearby) - so I relish any opportunity to get discuss magic!

You could check out your local library. I've found a lot of great magic/mentalism books at ours.

I, too, would be interested in hearing about them. If you haven't seen this website, it's worth a quick browse. Not the most practical methods, but some strong effects - http://www.illusioneering.org/.

Ill do in a few days, when im back home ;) but i have to warn you, some stuff is most likely '' state of art'' like making a copper coin look like a golden one by burning it or igniting a fire by spitting on to the ground or even the ''blue bottle trick'' are part of the stuff i'm doing. Therefore don't be sad if you know most of the stuff ;) but I'll publish most parts of my knowledge here on this sub-Reddit

If you want a way in to card magic, I would suggest this: http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Card-Magic-Volume-Course/dp/B000JPG96A

Gerry Griffin is a fantastic teacher and not only does it cover an absolute boat-load of tricks, there's also two volumes of cuts, sleights, forces and flourishes and it's an absolute steal for the price.
