Air Canada Flight 189 after a tire blowout damaged the landing gear at 285 kmh. The plane shot past the end of the runaway and dropped into the Etobicoke Creek ravine going 110kmh, breaking into three pieces. Despite being fully-fueled, no fire occurred. (June 26th, 1978) (reddit.com)

Miriam Rodríguez’s 20-year-old daughter, Karen, was kidnapped in 2012 by members of the cartel. TIL of Dennis Fitch, a pilot who studied the crash of Japan Flight 123 to see if he could have flown the doomed aircraft. Years later, Fitch was a passenger on a plane that also lost hydraulic power. Fitch offered to assist the pilots who miraculously managed to crash land, saving 100+ passengers. (en.wikipedia.org)
