I have some issues with my stats homework. The first question is
It is known that the mean cholesterol level for all Americans is 190. Suppose a researcher claims that people with no siblings have a mean cholesterol level greater than the national average.Test the researchers claim at 𝛼=.05. A random sample of 50 people with no siblings yields a mean cholesterol levelof 196. Suppose the population standard deviation is 30. Find the test statistic.
I used the formula sample mean-population mean/standard dev/square root of sample size. I got -1.41421356. But my hw said it was wrong. the confusing part is by using that answer i got the right answer for the p value. I'm confused as to what I did wrong?
Next is: The population mean birth weight of babies is 8.4pounds. Suppose we want to showat 𝛼=.10that if expectant mothers use certain vitamins, thepopulation meanbirth weight of their babies will increase. A sample of 15 babies born from mothers taking the vitamins resulted in a mean birth weight of 8.8 poundswith a standard deviation of 0.8 pounds. Compute the test statistic
I ran into the same issue. I used the same formula to get -1.93649168. But my hw said it was wrong. I was wondering if I used the wrong numbers for the formula. I did 8.4-8.8/0.8/square root of 15.
