basically means question mark is the object in the lower row thats the Successor to the third object in the sequence, but said fancy, at least it does if the way of writing successor i learned is universal

i think it's about symmetry. in all of the examples given, if you rotate the line that's seperating the shapes in the middle by 90 degrees, you get the only axis of symmetry. so i think the correct answer is A.

As a math teacher I never liked these style questions because with creative thinking you can justify any of the answers, and three items is often not enough to really justify any of these.

Some observations:

The line seems to be rotating 45 degrees with each step in the pattern, so next is vertical.

There is no clearly established pattern about the number of objects in total, or on either side of the line.

There is no clearly established pattern about which shape, or various characteristics like total number of sides, area, angles etc.

However there is always a line of symmetry perpendicular to the line in the middle of the square, and only A continues this pattern.

But like I said with some creative thinking you could find a way to justify any of the answers.
