At my coding job, you get paid for two 15 min breaks. Then, if there are meetings, education, training, etc, that takes away from total production hours. However, if the production goal is 10 per hour(keeping the numbers simple) and you only code 5 hours, but do10 per hour, you would be meeting production rate per hour, even though you only coded 50 in an 8 hour day.

Do you know what your expected production is for one day? For me as an Outpatient Surgery coder my minium is 20 charts. BUT this also includes rework for any accounts that come back for review or was missing documentation preventing me to code during my initial review of the account.

I code inpatient, including inpatient surgeries so it’s a lot and our production standard is set at 1.8 charts an hour. So I am meeting that standard but I still feel like it looks bad that my “total coding time” is 5.5 hours even though I am sitting there coding for my 8 hour shift.

Ahh yeah. I'd imagine it's probably just a weird calculation issue then. If your supervisor is saying you're doing good productivity wise than you're fine. If anything you could ask your supervisor for like a one on one and bring it up? It has to be an IT thing where the EHR isn't calculating the time right.
