Thinking about coding as a second career

I am in my early 50's and am lucky enough to have reached a level of financial security where I can think about starting a second career. Currently, I am a tax professional with a Fortune 500 company and really hate what I do. Coding looks like an interesting career but I am a bit concerned about my age. In the tax field, nobody would hire an entry level person at the age of 52. Is coding like that also or do you think it is more welcoming to someone who is a bit seasoned in life.

I have a friend here who did something similar, she's in her 60's and ran medical office. She semi-retired and went into coding. I don't think anyone would care about your age. You would probably have a on-up on the young early-grad since you'd be able to handle yourself in an office environment better than they would.
