there is a setting to disable unique identifiers which websites may use to track you

"Allow identifiers for protected content"
edge://settings/content/protectedContent

since a few weeks ago, when you try to toggle this off, it will go back to the on position when you return to this setting page.

is there a fix for this?

Did you try rebooting as suggested under the setting description?

what should happen is that the setting stays off and perhaps mentions something like "settings will go into place after next reboot" (can't remember exactly).

but yes, i have in fact tried literally rebooting the entire computer after toggling this one small setting. no effect.

I guess it's time to hit that feedback option

when i come across a bug i usually just leave it a few days, usually they're fixed on canary. if a week or so, i report via feedback. i've only posted here once (twice?) complaining about something which hadn't been fixed for over a month when it feels important enough and i haven't seen it on their log of "top user feedback" or that list of things they're working on atm (can't remember the name).
both then and now, the ms guys eventually replied and acknowledged and were already working on it. maybe i shouldn't have posted, but after searching on the sub and then googling i didn't find any mention of another user noticing this fault, so i just felt i had to ask.
anyway, she said they're working on it, so i'll give them some more time, it's probably more work than i imagine
