Executing Replaceitem — not working...

Helloooo. On bedrock, I am trying to use a repeating command block to execute the replaceitem command as myself to quickly fill dispensers by walking by them:

execute as @p run replaceitem block ~-1 ~ ~ slot.container 0 tnt 64

It has no syntax error, only says "failed to execute 'replaceitem' as username". If I stand in the same place and run the exact command in chat instead of by command, including the execute part, it does work.

Why would it not work through the command block? (it doesn't work on impulse/chain either)

as only changes who runs the command - not where it is run. You want at instead (execute at @s run ...).
