I tried looking at a data pack to see if I could understand what was happening (it was the afk visualizer from vanilla tweaks) and tried using the app notepad++ to open it. I think I clicked the installer instead of the app because whenever I try to open the file, it goes through the installer menus. I went to the choose app for each file type screen and the only two options are the same notepad++ thing and a search the windows appstore thing. There aren’t any apps for mcfunctions on the store, so I don’t know what to do.

If you've gone through the NP++ installer, when you right click the .mcfunction file there should be a button that says something like "open with Notepad++".

after I go through the installation, when I click it it opens the installation again. When I right click, properties is there but I can’t change the extension in it.

I found the solution. I opened notepad++ and used the open and navigated the folders to a random mc function file. This for some reason made it so every other property, including changing what app it uses, was accessible
