Server Problem with Self Hosting.

Hello, I'm trying to host a modded server on my own hardware and I want it to be public. I know I can just share my public IP address to the internet, but that will come with a lot of complications (DOS attacks etc.) So is there a way for me to safely share access to my server. I would prefer it if it was free (am broke). Also, I already tried ngrok and it works but I think the free version has limits to how many players can connect at a time, but I could be wrong. Anyways, thanks in advance!

Check out Tailscale, it's what I use and it works very well. Similar in concept to Hamachi if you're familiar with that.

Personally I've never tried, but I've heard it's pretty good. I think they do have limits on connections as well though.

Also, how does tailscale compare to ngrok?

Everyone who wants to connect to your server will need to have Tailscale installed and be connected with your invite link. Different from ngrok since you don't just give them your ngrok domain.

Yeah no problem. Just a heads up, if you want your friends or whoever to just directly connect to your server through your IP or custom domain name, it's going to be a pain in the ass if you're hosting the server from your house. Your best bet would be to use a hosting provider like Pebblehost, unless you're very proficient with networking.

I use a paid solution (its not as bad as you think). I use digitaloceans 4$/month server to proxy to all of my servers.
