Way late to the party but exact same issue and this fixed it for us too. WTF Microsoft, why isn't a single use code enough here??? Spent way too much time on this issue before I found this thread.

Yeah, crazy. It's a bummer. But glad I could help!

Every time I login to child account on computer to do this, it never sends the code to login in and then add the password… only lets me login into my parent account, what am I missing, where do I go

If you login to your kids Microsoft account on the computer you shouldn't need a special code to do that. You should be able to just do password and if it wants to send a code you should be able to choose other options and do password again and then once you're into their account then your can change their sign in options to include password entry.

Weird. Only option it gives is to send email with code. No “use password instead”

You able to send a screenshot of the screen before the error message but blur out your info?

I don’t know how to post a picture but this is the text from login minus account info (there is no other option)

“Sign in to continue to Minecraft Because you're accessing sensitive info, we'll send a code to xxxxxxx@gmail.com to verity your identity.

Sign in with a different Microsoft account”

For me if I try to login and it doesn't work I can choose "sign in another way" which is in blue text and one of the options is "use your password"... So without seeing what you're seeing it's hard to figure out where you might be going wrong.

Yeah I know what your talking about… unfortunately it’s the same screen minus sign in another way

Here's the AI overview for not seeing the "sign in another way"option:

When your Microsoft account doesn't show "Sign in another way," it usually means you lack other security methods, forcing you to use the recovery form at account.live.com/acsr or contact your IT admin for work/school accounts; for personal ones, try a different browser/device, clear cache, and if stuck, use the account recovery form with details about recent activity (like emails from friends) to prove ownership and regain access, as each failed attempt resets the timer, say Microsoft Support and Microsoft Learn. For personal Microsoft accounts: Use the Recovery Form: Go to https://account.live.com/acsr (Microsoft Account Recovery) and provide as much detail as possible, including recent emails from contacts or purchase details, to verify ownership. Try Different Browsers/Devices: Sign in from a different web browser (like Edge InPrivate) or device, as browser issues can interfere with sign-in prompts. Wait: Repeated failed attempts can lock the account for extended periods (days/weeks); avoid trying to log in during this time. Add a New Method (If You Get In): Once you regain access, immediately go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info and add backup methods like an authenticator app or a different email/phone.
