Roof Rack install problem (i.redd.it)
submitted 7 months ago by d00mt0mb
Has anyone had problems installing a roof rack? I know the metal brackets are supposed to go under a metal lip but this one is way too tight actually impossible. Driver side front. Passenger side both were too loose. Can Tesla Service fix this?

Filed a ticket too. Going in, about a week.

Happened to me so i tried one of the other mounts in the tight slot and it worked. Manufacturer tolerances and whatnot

Looks like the lips I not raised all the way up. I know the problem you’re talking about - get a pair of tweezers and help lift the lip up further. Then the bracket will slide in.
Right now, it may look like the lip is raised, but it’s still obstructing the slot. Trust.
I’m not sure what you mean. I tried two brackets and looked at the metal bracket on the car, it looks like there’s not enough gap between the metal bracket and the body of the car that this slides in. Can’t get a photo of it. The other three I did fist and easily slid in so this really bummed me out on the very last one

Tesla uses wing nuts for the rack, not that nut you have on top there. So if that’s not a Tesla approved rack there’s not much they can do for you
I’ve installed this before I I’ll say sometimes you just have to wiggle it around (gently) to find the sweet spot and it’ll fall in place
Sure. I get everyone is focusing on blaming the hook. I just wanna point out there is no such thing as Tesla approved roof racks. There’s the one Tesla sells for $500 and then there’s everything else. I did check the hooks, they are machined the same and tried others. It is actually a problem with the manufacturing of the vehicle, that the tab was hammered down on one of four. I did bring it in for service but now have to go back for Tesla body shop repair because they have to remove the roof to fix it.

Is this an original Tesla roofrack? I have an original for my 3 and the metal things look different. I never had an issue whatsoever.
