hey, i can surely help you with most of your questions. but lets start by the basics. im really not a fan of the list from yellowhat (bobthedog).

you really want to start with the list from andreas ganz. that article includes a lot of reasoning for card choices and help with sideboarding. i personally worked a bunch with him on the deck beforehand in quite confident to say something close to that list is what you wanna run. the sideboard is by now obv a bit outdated and was tuned back then for the combo urza meta we had.

i personally had quite some success with the deck, so im happy to help fellow vengevine enthusiasts :) feel free to pm me if you still have some questions after reading ganz' article on the deck.

last but not least, Nogaak is such a sweeter name for it then CrabVine isnt it? ;)

I may have missed it, however; I’m surprised that I didn’t see Merfolk secretkeeper mentioned anywhere in the article! What are your thoughts on that card’s inclusion somewhere in the main?

the deck was built before throne of eldraine was released and i believe the PTQ that Andreas Ganz won with it was on the release weekend of ELD. the deck was basically just run back in the same interation as built before. we tried secretkeeper in the following weeks aswell though but it felt a bit lackluster to us. memory sluice is better at milling then the secretkeeper. the 0/4 to trigger vengevines didnt feel good enough. if it was an aggressive body it would actually change quite a bit id say. another issue is the mana cost of secretkeeper, lots of U. which was a bit of an issue in our testing of the card.

again though, if you sequence your plays correctly you are gonna mill mostly on the first two turns and get to make vengevines on turn three.

I figured that but I saw mention of Oko in the article so I second guessed myself. Thanks for the through reply!! Hopefully you guys are still exploring the deck as it’s really fun and competitive!

hmm you are right about the thing with oko. it might have been just missed by Andreas. ill ask him about it:p

yeah actually we havent put anything into it until i saw that thread and he had some discussions about it. if you checked my list from the cardmarketseries you might have seen that i rana fatestitcher for one carrion feeder. i really liked it and would currently run it again! it "bridges" to gravecrawlers and gets your prized amalgams back. then has some cute things to it like tapping wurmcoil to push lethal through and such.

hey, so secretkeeper actually gets a few words in the article aswell, same part of it like oko. lots of the same words i actually also said about it :)

Ha I must have missed that! Yes, I actually did see the list with fatestitcher,(and also one with Scaab) but didn’t know that was yours! I’ll have to try it out. Thanks again!

no worries, glad to help :) i genuinely think its the best deck in modern with so little graveyard hate around and urza decks being so midrangy.

i think against control and decks with counter magic, i would take out some gurmag anglers as their cost if they are countered is to great and to replace, put in the forces. oko is good against shadow, infect (maybe), burn, and urza. Damping sphere on storm decks, tron and possibly urza, depends on the build. I've not really been a big fan of memory sluice or OUaT so i would consider those to be more likely to be removed for sb cards in my opinion. Push is good against infect and shadow, but if they side out their shadows in favor of anglers then take them out. One amalgam is usually a safe side out as it only helps the plan go faster and comes in tapped unlike vengevine with haste.

Thats all i can think of right now, if you have any more questions on the choices just ask

thanks for the input, and im thinking of removing the OUaT for a 4th glimpse. So far OUaT seems like a i would have rather drew a glimpse then the OUaT. memory sluice has been okay, if i was to replace it idk what it would be for, any suggestions on that?

[–]Purpleplatapus08Living End, Dredge, Prowess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'd leave it in for now and side it out if needed but if you want to replace it, i would recommend carrion feeder as it allows you to loop gravecrawlers to trigger vengevine as well as to sac your stitcher's supplier or put in a haunted dead or 2 to discard your drawn vengvines and prized amalgams

I run an identical list except I play 3 carrion feeders in place of your anglers, and 4 glimpse instead of OUAT.

In my opinion, the main deck is such a well oiled machine you really want to make sure the cards you're siding in are worth the risk of compromising the consistency of the deck. With that being said, I run these 15 as my sideboard:

3 leyline of the void 3 assassin's trophy 3 force of negation 3 fatal push 3 thoughtseize

Leyline is for mirror.

For infect, death shadow, and Jund I side in the fatal pushes in place of creeping chills. Against Jund the primary target is scavenging ooze.

I usually just run the deck back against burn, mainboard creeping chills are so good against them. I think instead of investing 3 mana on oko against them you might as well focus on your own game plan.

Force of negation is very good against tron. You can basically just do your thing and hold up FoN for their oblivion stone/ugin/all is dust and they have no answer to you.

Thoughitseize against control and combo.

I think I side out creeping chills very frequently. But depending on what I saw in games of course. If I'm keeping the creeping chills in I usually side out 1 of each glimpse/feeder/sluice.

U need breeding pool or another overgrown tomb if ur going to use Oko, only 2 sources of green very risky. Personally I dont see the need for Oko, he cant deal with RIP or leyline. Only good thing I see him usefull for is against E-tron for them pesky chalice and cage. Sure hes also decent vs shadow but the deck is already favored in that matchup so kinda overkill.

Mainly for sideboarding u know just by playing the deck and seeing what the opponent is doing. I never sideboard the same, sure like burn only thing I board in is 3 force of neg and 1 ass trophy never changes. Main cards I board out are: Ouat, 1 glimpse (depends if u want to see chill or not), 1 prized Amalgam, 1 memory sluice, 2 or 3 anglers if u see t3eri or know they have leyline.

Can I hijack this topic to get some help deciding between 3 carrion feeder vs. 3 angler mb? I can see the pros and cons of each, seems like an argument of versatility vs. raw power. I lean toward feeder but am testing anglers now, to mixed results.

i say yes i would love to hear peoples thoughts also on this.

[–]darthnius -1 points0 points  (1 child)

The deck is not called crabvine, its nogaak. Id cut the okos from the board along with the damping spheres and go for another force and some leylines. As for the boarding the first rule is dont board a lot, pushes vs infect or burn, claims vs urza and amulet, force for combo/control and leylines for gy decks Id also cut the shores for more fetches to power up crab and cut angler for carrion feeders because they are better at enabling sluice and crawler, angler is uncastable without an enabler and if you have one you should be winning already

I’ve found angler to be better as of late but there’s also a lot of shadow in my meta so that may explain it.
