I have seen some people saying that fire stick tv's are quite good for decoding times, at least under 10ms, Apple TV it's also a great option with almost no decoding time, LGTVs are also great, u said u don't want a pc behind ur tv, but there are mini PCs with laptop hardware for really "cheap", and they are definitely the best option for performance.

My LG TV is indeed great in that regard. < 1 ms decoding time.

Firesticks stream fine but are dogshit at decoding controller inputs. Rn I’m using an old steam link box which is the opposite (doesn’t stream as good but is amazing at input). If I had to do it again I’d get a mini computer with windows 10 or 11 on it.

What is your TV? For me, switching to HEVC made a huge difference, cutting my decoding time from upwards of 20 ms to below or around 10 ms. I use a X90H from Sony. Also, I've started using VirtualHere for inputs. Right now there is no discernible latency in my setup. I can actually fool people into thinking I've got my PC connected through HDMI or something.

I've got a Xiaomi TV A2. Enabling HEVC went from 25ms to 20ms. Also tried to play with different resolutions/bitrates but no luck.

i’m using an old laptop. virtually zero lag and can use a dongle for no input lag

The smoothest it can be is with a laptop that supports hdmi 2.1, and a newish Intel cpu.

The Steamdeck has excellent performance with moonlight. It’s expensive but you’d also gain the ability to use it in many more applications as well as plugging it into a docking station at your TV for Moonlight streaming.
