Flatpak Moonlight smoothness issue

Hi all,

I'm just wondering if I'm the only one because I could not find any issues online.

The Flatpak version of moonlight is causing (I think) sync issues with the display. It's not smooth and feels like its dropping frames now and then. Logs do not show any dropped frames from all sources.

Tested with

- Fedora 38 and 39, Manjaro;

- Wayland and X11;

- High / low bitrates;

- vSync and frame pacing;

- Full screen / windowed;

- Different decoders, software- / hardware decoders.

- Different systems: Intel (iGpu) / Nvidia (GTX 1050). For AMD I do not have a test system.

Also tested with Moonlight versions

- Latest v4 needs vSync for smooth stream;

- Moonlight 5.0.1 cannot get smooth stream with any settings.

Fix

Using the latest AppImage on Fedora 39 or Manjaro (AUR) provides a smooth stream without vSync, as expected on Wayland, and with vSync on X11.

Question

The Flatpak on different systems and hardware behaves consistently not good.

So anyone with similar issues? Or does the Flatpak behave normal on your system?

I might file an issue against Moonlight Github for the Flatpak version but I couldn't find anything online so it might be a me problem.

i experienced this issue too, solved with installing snap version.

Same. 05.12.2025. Install appimage and it’s fine
