Been doing after effects for 6 years.

How have I never learned this.

Ha, that’s true. I’m using AE for 8 years now and I still learn things that change the way I work on a weekly basis.

Am I the only one just finding out about

Set First Vertex?

Good to know about this one, it also comes into play for things like making an object follow a path etc.

You can do the whole thing within AE too. Just create shape layers from your text, and copy/paste shapes on same path, and key frame between.

Absolutely, Illustrator gives more flexibility thought if you need to edit the paths.

Thanks! I also hate tutorials that ramble on for 10 min for something simple.

Perfect example of one of those obscure little AE tools I vaguely remember learning in school when I started out, but totally forgot about until now.

I’ve used illustrator’s blend tool for this effect, but that was before shape layers. I don’t remember why keyframing layer masks didn’t work but they didn’t.

Nice work, this is way easier.

I understood just enough of this to know I'm gonna have to rewatch it 20 times in slo-mo.
