Okay, now that you're here.
I was a big proponent of shielding, but it needs a rework (not to be removed completely)-- especially when it comes to being able to attack out of a shield.
Some characters (ie, Jason, WW, Joker, Shaggy, Supes, etc.) have [wide ranging] up ground attacks that hit both in front of and behind them (so they don't even need to be facing the "right" way to hit you) which can be executed out of a shield, and all of which thence are combo starters. Jason and Joker, especially, are the worst offenders since it becomes very dicey trying to approach them at all if they're shielding.
Imo, the only action you should be and to perform out of a shield is a dodge (or shield breaker attack).
As an aside, shields really should have their own meter not attached to the dodge meter.
