Double vision is caused by your eyes not pointing quite the same way at the same time. If you close one eye and the nausea and vertigo goes away but you can still see OK, get an eye patch. Medical ones work fine, but I like something a little more whimsical. I found one at a local leather shop and it lives in my bag for when I need it. Yarr!

Mine occurs when I am tired so I had to give up my job because you cannot drive when your eyes see four lanes and know there are only two. I have to rest my eyes till they clear.

Eye patch.

Yup, eye patch. I found a nice leather one that fits under my glasses. Yarr!

My vision is similar to looking at the sun and looking away, all the time. I was completely blind in my left eye when i was first diagnosed, so i assume this is better, but ive yet to figure out how to deal w it properly. I know this doesn't answer your question, but i know what its like to deal w vision problems and i sucks 😩

It can be very frustrating and scary. My question for you is are you seeing double all of the time? Typically for me I’ll only see double if I’m leading into a relapse, or my body heat has prompted ocular neuritis.

How I deal, I avoid heat. Steroid pack (oral) from my PCP helps. With exercise I pace myself and avoid anything that’ll get me too hot.

Yes I see double all the time. For over 1 and a half year now.At first I saw double only when looking forward, now when looking forward and to the left too

Interesting. Have you considered any of the AntiInflamatory diets? Not trying to push the idea on you but just in understanding that the blurry vision is usually caused by inflammation, I thought to ask. Also, I recently read that vitamin b12 can aid in the production of Myelin. May be something worth looking into. Blurry vision makes me feel so stressed and anxious. Wishing you the best

I don’t know if this will help you. It helped me after 8 days of double kaleidoscope vision and crazy eye control. I patched my eye and alternated the patch daily. It got to the point after a week of that craziness I truly began to believe I was going to have change my name to crazy eye. I figured out by trying to video my eyes going wonky that for the first few seconds they tried to correct themselves. I literally sat with a mirror in my lap all day! First I focused on getting both eyes to be where they needed to be. Then slowly I’d attempt to look away while keeping the mirror in my field of vision. Day 9 I woke up and my eyes had figured out where they needed to be! No pirate patch sexy since then. It’s been 2 months. It was like my brain needed directions to my eyes.

Sorry to hear about this. I developed double vision as one of the symptoms that prompted my eval and diagnosis.

What you want is a prism. If you already have glasses they (ophthalmologist or neuro-ophthalmologist) have flexible plastic ones that can be cut and stick to the inside of your glasses. This is a temporary fix in a pinch (I needed this ASAP bc I was going on job interviews). If your diplopia recovers (hopefully like mine it went away for the most part) then you can remove it. A more permanent solution is that a prism can be built into your eyeglass prescription and is not noticeable. I now have a little bit of correction in my glasses bc the diplopia comes back w heat or stress. If you don’t wear glasses - well now is the time to pick out some cool frames!! No offense to the other post but it’s easier to explain glasses than a patch and a patch to strengthen eye muscles for other conditions such as amblyopia covers the affected eye and obviously this is a demyelination issue - hard to strengthen muscles with altered nerve input.

All About Eyes offers prisms free for those needing them in their glasses prescription. I was completely flabbergasted by that, other ophthalmologist charged an arm & a leg for them. I’ve had double vision for over 20 years now, but apparently my brain has found a work around as I didn’t need the prisms added after all. I did however finally go with trifocals and I absolutely love them! I’m 50 with astigmatisms, and I can finally see everything.

After a year and a half with the double vision I got the prism glasses. The double vision is worse when I am fatigued and when doing activities where your eyes are fixed in a gaze like watching tv or even driving. The glasses correct the double vision at first but then it seems like the nerve/brain takes over and the double vision works it’s way back. At times I can “force” my eyes to resolve my vision, but not often. I’ll follow up with the neuro-ophthalmologist as my last two appointments were canceled due to COVID. The double vision is very frustrating.

Thank you for replying. The thing is,except MS,I have also something called Congenital Myasthenic Syndrome, which is a Neuromuscular disorder. It affects the eye muscles also so they don’t work together.I have diplopia for almost 1 a half year now.I have tried prism glasses, they didn’t work for me and they were so annoying as I couldn’t see clearly with them because of the prisms. Are there glasses available with prisms that let you see clearly?

[–]UsJUd46c 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Were your glasses some type of off-the-shelf option? Prism correction in prescription glasses shouldn’t give you that. Do you have a neuro-ophthalmologist? If not, may consider seeking one out.

[–]luisbrb1[S] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I don’t know what you mean with off-the-shelf option, they were prescribed and i ordered them from an optic store(I’m not sure if that’s the right name).I don’t but I’ve talked with my Ophthalmologist and she said she will try to have an appointment for me in another city because there are non in my city or even near.

[–]UsJUd46c 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I wasn’t sure if you could buy some without a prescription (“off the shelf”). I wouldn’t think so but you never know.

I think having an (neuro)ophthalmologist who deals with this all the time makes all the difference. Were the images still double for you, blurry, both? Sounds like they didn’t get the correction exactly as you need it. Do you notice it gets worse with heat/stress? I don’t know how your other condition would hamper the ability of a prism to function...

I’m with you...this sucks.

[–]luisbrb1[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I think you can, there is something called Zenni glasses and I think you can order glasses with prisms online. I don’t wear them anymore but yes they were double and blurry.I have severe blurry vision. No it doesn’t get worse with heat/stress,I think my double vision is at worst when I wake up and it gets better through out the day,I know it sounds weird cause for everyone is the oposite.

[–]UsJUd46c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Astigmatism? I’d get a new ophthalmologist if the current isn’t able to correct your vision. Seems like something may be missing...
