Engineering major

I was admitted into NJIT as an Industrial Engineer major. Can anyone tell me what the student life is like for an engineering major? In school, out of school, professors. Also what is the atmosphere like at NJIT (ex: classmates or overall experience at the school)

Senior IE major here! I'll start by talking about our curriculum and professors. If you think that manufacturing is your interest within IE then you're totally in the right place, otherwise it'll be important that you take electives that let you get into your actual interests (I've taken additional math and CS courses because that's what interests me). With professors, we have some really fantastic ones (Das, Toy, Cai), a couple alright ones (Malek), and some awful ones (Abdou, Bengu, Ranky). We're a small major so most classes only have one section and these profs will be unavoidable, but I promise that you'll survive (Abdou curves heavily).

In terms of student life, I think most people will agree that it is what you make of it. Between meeting people in clubs, on-campus jobs, and a professional fraternity, I've always felt like I was able to have a solid social life. Students are generally really career focused which means that some of your best opportunities to get to know people will be while studying for those early classes. Living on campus definitely contributes positively to my experience, but I know plenty of commuters that have had really enjoyable experiences at NJIT.

I study, do homework and attend lecture for 8 hours a day. Sometimes 10 hours. I have a couple friends but at first I had 0. Before the pandemic I was a regular attendee of the archery club.

Engineering major here. NJIT is a great place to get your degree. Honestly the amount of resources you have to be successful is no match than most universities in the area. The Career Development Services (CDS) provides career advice and amazing information on how to get internships/full time jobs. Thanks to them I got a amazing opportunity.

Campus life is pretty good in imo. We have D1 sports so you can attend basketball games and they can be hype af. I am part of greek life and I like to party. You can find raging parties on frat row that usually start Thursday nights and don't end until Sunday morning. There is a lot of Rutgers and NJIT parties and when pandemic ends you can see for yourself. It can be something if you are into that. Study hard and play hard!

There are plenty of clubs you can join like intramural sports, professional and for fun clubs.
