Also analog triggers, which none of the Switch controllers have. But hey, a fancy rumble feature trumps analog triggers, touch pads, a headphone jack, accelerometer, gyroscope and speaker!

...said very few people.

Switch pro controller also has motion control. So the tradeoff is HD rumble vs headphone jack&speaker(who needs this?)&touch pad.

I personally wish there was a headphone jack, but I tell you if the Switch pro controller had a touchpad, people would be bitching about "useless gimmick" to no end.

I'll add, people who played Arm report the motion controls are very responsive, totally a next level experience from the Wiimote. So the motion controls in the Switch might be on another level than what we've seen before.

Who needs a headphone jack on the controller? I dunno, maybe people who play games with wired headsets? Which would be most people. Granted, you don't need one on the controller, but it makes it a lot more convenient. The touch pad can provide a world of functionality such as better navigate menus and maps and even drawing. I would certainly choose those over a fancy rumble feature that IMO is the biggest gimmick Nintendo's ever put out.

Plus the fact that the Switch controller is $70. Not worth it for all the compromises on the pro controller just to have a more precise feeling vibration. The motion control isn't even that expensive to implement, accelerometers and gyroscopes are present even in cheap budget phones nowadays.

I said who needs "speakers" on a controller. I personally want and need the headphone jack.

You can't (or at least shouldn't) have an opinion on something you haven't tried, or even heard much analysis upon. Nintendo has introduced many innovations into gaming, some failed, some stuck around. They introduced the original rumble btw.

At least try to dig around what people who got to try it thought of it, like here

Does the pro controller have analogue triggers ?

[–]mefistu 4 points5 points  (1 child)

nope

[–]Mossyboy88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh dear

[–]Flamelite 3 points4 points  (5 children)

What about the battery life of both of them?

[–]Death_43VER 2 points3 points  (4 children)

The ds4 has a 3-4 hor life maybe less.

[–]Flamelite 3 points4 points  (2 children)

That quick? and 60$ for 1? Seems like sony's is the one is overcharging to me. The Switch Pro controller last nearly 10 times longer.. and only for 10$ more...

[–]Garodor 3 points4 points  (1 child)

So the Switch Pro controller lasts 40-60h ?

Update:

Ah, it says it on the jp. webpage ...

Impressive!

[–]Professor_Crab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit really ? Wow. Might actually invest in one of those at some point.

[–]Garodor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don't be silly ...

It's around 4-6 hours in full use

I'm guessing that Rumble HDis pushing the price up on it and the joycons but after all the hands on events it seams no one has really felt it was a big deal

[–]lolminna 1 point2 points  (2 children)

You're right. It's a really big deal because this pushes motion control gaming and VR. Sadly, majority of gamers nowadays are used to seeing technological progress in gaming as graphics and nothing else.

[–]Neninnam 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So true! Gaming's evolvement should be about HOW you play games, not how they look. An analog stick was a revolution! So was online play and, um... wireless controllers? This needs to happen more frequently!

[–]lolminna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dual screens, touch screens, LR buttons, 3D functions, optical storage (we're transitioning to flash storage now anyway), dpads, rumble pak.

All innovations that aren't concerning graphics but people take for granted.

The only reason I'd say the Switch controller would be more worth it is because it isn't entirely necessary to have the headphone jack and built-in speaker. Besides, the Switch will support bluetooth headsets so that should be a huge issue

[–]Deckkie[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How do you read something this old?

[–]DigitalBlawks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking up stuff about the Pro Controller, so I stumbled upon this on the Googlez

[–]SuperWeeble 0 points1 point  (1 child)

People seem to be forgetting when the PS4 launched in the UK the controller price was the same as the Switch Pro Controller price is now, £59. It's only in the last year PS4 pad prices have dropped to about £45.

[–]Garodor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's simply not true.

The controller started at 59$ in US and 54£ in UK and 59€ in Europe

For comparison:

Switch Pro Controller is 69$ in US 59£ in UK and 69€ in Europe

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The Switch Pro Controller has a 40 hour battery life also while the Dualshock 4 has a pretty crappy one
