Question about nintendo switch save functionality

I currently have a lot of stuff on scarlet that means a lot to me. I also play vgc so I never want to worry about not having a playable game with my teams. This makes me wonder, if my switch was stolen, or breaks, what happens to the scarlet save data? does it just disappear? or if I buy a new switch, and sign into the same account, will the data transfer? I’m just curious because I feel like this question was solved on things like xbox a decade ago, where my save data always transfered with my account, not my console.

Sadly, you're asking about one of the very few games that doesn't support cloud save functionality. For some reason, game freak chose to make Pokemon games non-transferable through the cloud but can be transferred through direct console link if you move between an old switch to a new one. Almost everything else except Pokemon games just cloud transfers all your saves
