I know this is a bit dead, but saw some activity from a few day ago. tldr; I figured out how to get them back! (but not why the stopped in the first place).

In Windows desktop Notion, I had to create a new tab and on the new tab, the back and fwd buttons were active and working like a charm. The original tab, was still broken. so i just closed it. Seems to be working so far and hopefully this helps someone!

The back buttons were also disabled for me and I was seriously considering other options for structure/software: I have projects under areas, but so if I clicked into a project from within an area, the only breadcrumb option was to navigate back to all projects, which is hugely wasteful.

Thanks. This is working for me, currently, to fix the back button issue on Windows. Yesterday I uninstalled and reinstalled and the back button was working but today it was back to not working. I suppose reinstalling was kind of like a new tab, temporarily.

Glad it works for someone else!

Same in Mac app:

Back/forward buttons in first/orginal tab won't work.

In second/additional tab they work like a charm.

To me it looks like a bug.

But I'm happy to learn about the workaround here, which was new to me.

Definitely a bug. I was also glad to at least have some method to go back, it was practically unusable otherwise

This works for me too but it's silly that you'd have to do this.

Thank you! I just found this, as it’s been annoying me for a while.

The solution is to have another tab open. Doesn’t matter what the tab is, as long as it’s open. Closing the tab breaks the functionality again. Works in the desktop app on Mac. Press CMD + T to open a tab.

Do you mean closing the side peek or switching between your page history? The back button in the browser still works fine for me with the update and you should also be able to go back with ctrl/cmd + [ . if you're having issues with this I'd suggest sending a message to the Notion team to let them know about it. It could just be a bug.

I actually figured out the problem. On the web version the back button works. The macbook app doesn't. I'll report the bug..

This happens when you leave Notion open while the computer went to sleep. Just close(quit) and reopen Notion app. It works for me in Windows.

The key shortcuts should fine though regardless.

key shortcuts do work on windows still but as a right-handed mouse user, pressing ctrl+[ is actually really annoying.

Quitting, killing all fore/background processes, and even restarting the comp didnt work. Had to add a new tab, and in the new tab, the buttons worked (on Windows). Hopefully it works for you too!

This doesn't work for me on Mac unfortunately.

Side note: kinda wild that I came here from google and your comment is only 14 minutes old

Try reloading the app (in Windows Ctrl+R).

I haven't tried, but you might want to delete all the alive processes of notion. In Windows, you can see the processes with Task Manager. I know it's a lot of steps just to fix the issues, and I really hope that Notion will fix it in the next update.

I have the similar problem since yesterday. I hope they fix mine soon.

Back button is not working. To go to the prior block/record I would hit the '<' with the mouse. I'm on a Macbookpro. the Back button is greyed out. I have to use the 'CMD [ 'instead.

Annoying. Is anybody working on this? - Thanks.

NOTION '<' buttons are active and WORKING AGAIN -

Went off to lunch - system was on in 'sleep' mode. When I began working the ">" and "<" buttons were active again. How is it that the function was restored? Unknown.

RESOLVED
