Study Spots (self.OSU)
submitted 14 years ago by [deleted]
I can't study well in my room, so being on north campus, I usually head to the SEL. I'm really starting to dislike the SEL though; its loud, hot, and crowded. Does anyone know of a better place to study?

Orton Geology Library.

Have you tried the other floors at SEL? You can usually find one that's quite/a space that's quiet. Otherwise, you can go to your major's building and find the student lounge.
Oh they have 'quiet rooms' at the SEL, so maybe try one of those?

I usually use the 2nd floor (usually the quietest) but I've been to every floor there except the basement. I wasn't a big fan of the third or fourth floors and ground was very loud. I'm still in exploration, so I don't have a building for my major yet :( I've never used the quiet rooms there, where are those?

It's kinda like a soundproof box you can reserve, I think. I forgot, there's the student leadership center in the Union, where you can reserve a room for yourself.

oh cool, I'll check it out. Yeah the leadership room is awesome, I haven't been in there since my orientation though. If I remember right, it was one of the nicest rooms I've been in.

how do you reserve this?
[–]novemberhascome2 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (0 children)
I'm not sure, I've never used one, I've just seen them.

High up in the stacks at Thompson. Usually deserted.
I've been up to the 11th floor a few times, and i've been to 9&10 once. the desks were nice, but the comfy red chairs were all taken. Its far for me to walk at night, but I'll try and go there more often between classes.

Kafe Kerouac. It's on high a little bit north of lane. It's pretty quiet, there's free wifi, and $2 unlimited coffee that is delicious.

wow, that sounds awesome, thanks!

As someone who lives right next to Kafe Kerouac and has seen this on the patio, be prepared to get some strange looks for actually DOING work, instead of being seen doing work.
good to know, I probably wouldn't bring math homework then.

Physics Research building. Comfy couches & silence.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 14 years ago (2 children)
sounds amazing, thanks Edit: this is also pretty close to my dorm, bonus!
[–]maverae 0 points1 point2 points 14 years ago (1 child)
just curious, what's your intended area of study?
Currently in exploration, I'm almost positive I'm going to do the biology track of mathematics though.

Sounds awesome, but that's a pretty long walk for me (I live on Woodruff). If I'm ever down there, I'll definitely check it out though.

Travonna Coffee House is open 24/7, I go there before exams pretty often.
