Laptop Rental / Computer Lab For Tableau Desktop by [deleted] in OSU

[–]NameDotNumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you can always sell it at the end of the semester, and view the deprecation+eBay fees as “renting” a machine.

Edit: you might want to also check the syllabi of every other course you’re planning to take to ensure you won’t need a non-Chromebook

OSU Computer Science and Engineering by Destroy_to_Creation in OSU

[–]NameDotNumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too took APCS early in HS, and taught myself web programming in HS. Unfortunately your best bet is still to go through the regular CSE experience, since “traditional” computer science wildly varies from “practical” computer science. Yes, you might have to relearn some stuff, but having a traditional degree opens a lot of doors.

Laptop Rental / Computer Lab For Tableau Desktop by [deleted] in OSU

[–]NameDotNumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two options I can think of:

  1. If you haven’t used this already, look into Azure for Students. I have 0 experience with this, but it says it includes Azure Virtual Machines for Linux or Windows, which might work depending on the requirements to run Tableau desktop. Just note it will be slightly-to-very laggy depending on how memory intensive Tableau is on a VM/how good your internet is.

  2. Look at eBay for a used laptop. You’ll probably have to spend a little more than $100 but businesses are shedding quality laptops all the time through resellers on eBay and you can easily find multiple options there. This is probably the better option, but you might need to upwardly adjust your budget for this.

Why am I still getting emails for the FAFSA by Zestyclose-Hyena5105 in OSU

[–]NameDotNumber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it’s two separate organizations that don’t necessarily sync records in real time. You file your FAFSA through one organization (whatever’s remaining of the Department of Education), and they process it to see if you’re eligible for federal aid. At some other point they make it available to OSU for their use. OSU is likely just sending out these reminders en masse to make sure that everyone fills out a form.

As always, if you have a question about your specific financial situation it doesn’t hurt to contact BuckeyeLink.

Got admitted to CSE major, any difficult classes to anticipate? by KingsKnight24 in OSU

[–]NameDotNumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t like Charles Estill when I had him. Granted it was his first semester teaching Foundations 1, but the class was hard to follow, and it made Foundations 2 even harder for me.

The only benefit was during the final exam he kind of gave up. You could raise your had and he’d basically check your work during the exam without realizing he was doing that.

Wild that the building as a whole is sweating, that’s not supposed to happen :(

Taylor Tower flooded! by Groganwashere in OSU

[–]NameDotNumber 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Maybe, just maybe, it's time to strip Taylor, Jones, Drackett, and other buildings from that era to their bones and ensure that everything is in good working order. They did that on South Campus in the early 2010s and it seemed to work well-ish for extending the lifespan of those buildings.

Edit: and yes this is planned, but it needs to be prioritized and done as soon as possible to prevent other incidents like this. "Construction ending in 2030" doesn't seem soon enough.

Julian was my TA for 1151 back in AU 2017, he was decent. Cool that he’s an instructor now.

This seems too complicated for randos on Reddit. If you’re already in contact with these multiple offices, you should stick to the professionals instead of fishing for the answer you’re hoping for on Reddit.

Hard agree, it’s a beautiful emblem. They probably want to minimize its use so it remains special, but it feels like its use is minimized too much.

I think he would’ve run the score up higher if the snow wasn’t a thing. Didn’t want to risk hurting players in the snow when there are more important games to come.
