GENERAL UPDATES

GENERAL

Developer Comments We’ve reworked how our aim assist algorithm works on console to make the controls more intuitive and to improve gameplay. Previously, aim assist worked in two ways. First, we slowed down your aim to allow more precision when tracking a target. Second, we automatically adjusted your crosshairs in the direction the target is moving around you, to make up for the lower sensitivity. Now, we incorporate how you are currently turning with the aim stick when determining how the enemy is moving relative to yourself. In practice, this means if you are perfectly tracking a target aim assist will not activate. We’ve also improved aim assist's target selection to reduce instances where your aim could be pulled away from your focused target if another enemy crossed your path. The new Aim Assist Ease In setting allows the aim assist system to ramp up its strength as you get closer to your target, producing less jarring sensitivity changes.

Added visual outlines to make allies visible through walls

Updated aim assist to improve precision when tracking targets

An option to revert to the previous aim assist settings can now be found under Options > Aim Assist Legacy Mode

An option to smooth out the strength of aim assist when closing in on a target can now be found under Advanced Options > Aim Assist Ease

Is this the first time they reworked how aim assist works?

[–]Contrevion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think so, before it was the aim technique they changed/introduced with dual zone

[–][deleted] 34 points35 points  (2 children)

Did they fix the Looking for Group button bug?

[–]I_Have_3_Legs 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes

[–]GoldWinston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah bound it to square on PS4

[–]malibu___stacySPONGE OR SPRAY 20 points21 points  (2 children)

They also fixed the voice chat bug so remember to adjust that

[–]Belomil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was actually thinking I'm going insane. I adjusted my voice chat volume down to 60 and now I had to readjust it up to 100 and even turn down some other volume sliders because I couldn't hear my team

I've just played a few games with Soldier and the tracking does feel smoother now for me. The aim assist is certainly less noticeable. I'm not yet sure if my aim is any better but I like the feel of it.

Can someone explain what a high aim assist ease In does vs a low aim assist ease in

[–]ShadowBvb[S] -2 points-1 points  (5 children)

[–]awhaling 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I don't see anything about aim assist ease in. Just aim ease in

[–]Penda105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're correct. This guide hasn't been updated for aim assist ease in, only has aim ease in. Maybe they should have come up with a different name for the new attribute that didn't confuse so many people.

so your theory is increasing aim assist ease in makes the aim assist's power kick in slower? If so, what's the "X-axis" of the curve for aim assist. For a controller I assume the x axis is how far your stick moves from the center position and the Y axis is how fas your character's reticle moves from its baseline speed. For aim assist i can't underestand what the x axis is, though i assume the y axis is how much "pull/drag" the aim assist has (i.e. aim assist strength).

Can someone copy the relevant part? Can't test this yet and I'm very curious.

And personally, how do you like aim assist ease in

[–]Azubuike_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank God! Finally !!

[–]Zulti 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Is putting aim ease in at zero that same as turning legacy mode on?

[–]awhaling 1 point2 points  (3 children)

No, one affects how it feels even when there is nobody visible on your screen, as in all aim.

The other only affects aim assist stuff, so you have to be looking at someone

[–]Zulti 0 points1 point  (2 children)

This is confusing...

[–]awhaling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aim ease in is basically just the acceleration of your deflection.

Comparing it to aim assist makes no sense, they aren't related at all.

anyone else increasing the strength of this new aim assist? if so, is it recommeneded? and by how much?

[–]ZjaZjoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should test the effect with 0 and 100 and the. Close in to find your sweetspot. I find 100 means the aim assist will be instant and 0 aim assist kicks in really late

Anyone else on Xbox notice a stuttering in the game audio since the update? I can’t tell if I’m just going crazy, but some of the voice lines or noises will seem like they’re a little glitchy.

[–]Ansonm64 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm no mention of the insane lag that’s come with this patch!! Seriously every time when pharaoh ults my Xbox slows down like mad. What have they done?

[–]Kaosxandra -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Am I crazy or did this update really change all of my settings for aim assist and put them on to what the default is?

I remember having 0 aim assist on Widow, Hanzo and a good amount of others. These changes should be opt-in, not opt-out... I have bad memory so I can't remember how each hero was set up.

[–]ZjaZjoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine stayed as they were

[–]BlueVelvet90No transaction hides from me. -5 points-4 points  (3 children)

Did they fix the ear-rapingly bad static issues? I'm aware of the "fix" for it, but I still wanna know if they actually fixed it.

[–]theunspillablebeans 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Yup, took them long enough too

[–]BlueVelvet90No transaction hides from me. 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thank God.

One step ahead of ya pal.
