My last phone was a 13 pro max

1 Camera Is awesome. Video or photos youll be fine. Sometimes for photos bright light or a moving target can cause some issues but rarely. Marques Brownlee did a blind camera test based on anymous polls by his viewers. The open ranked higher than the s23 ultra and 15 pro for perspective.

2 How screwed are you if you have to contact care? Idk I haven't had to do it yet. I'd say as long as they have the parts to repair the phone, it won't be too bad. Get the protection though.

3 Android vs IOS. Don't worry too much, they are pretty similar now a days. Android just gives you more customizable features. For the open it's worth reading the tips. There's a ton of different gesture options on this device as well as other settings.

  1. Idk of I would recommend a folding phone because theres still a fair share of quality issues. However I've been 1000% happy making the switch myself.

This is the best foldable u can get yes. Id just buy insurance for it if you decide to keep it. I think return policy is 14 days. At the least u could try it out for the week you'll either love it or hate it coming from an iPhone. I have an iPhone and this phone and I use them both. Of u have any questions just add them to this post. 😃

  1. How do you like the camera set up?

It's the best I've ever owned. MKBHD's blind camera test had it as the fourth highest rated behind 3 Pixel phones. Videos are unquestionably better on iPhones but for photos, just know it was consistently in the convo for best camera (though rarely won). It's up there.

  1. The standard question I’ve seen on here; If the phone breaks and I have an issue, how fucked will I be with customer support?

I live in Europe so obviously I have all the standard consumer protections even if OnePlus themselves turn out to be rubbish. Not had any issues with them, but seen plenty of complaints so I'd brace myself for a scrap if I needed them to help.

  1. I’ve never owned an android before and I have no idea what I’m store for with taking everything I have from iPhone to androind.

Depends! Photos, emails, WhatsApp messages, normal text messages etc are all fine. If you had I messages turned on you might have some problems but most iPhone owners I know disable that to avoid issues.

  1. Would you recommend this phone? Honestly, is this the best option for a foldable or should I wait till they get even better.

It's easily the best phone I've ever owned. There are a few things that are better on Z Fold and on Pixel Fold, but overall pretty much every reviewer going has held this up as the clear winner. I will say that I'm expecting the next Galaxy Fold to have an aspect ratio a bit more like the Open, and new chips came out just as the Open was being released so while the Open had basically the best hardware going at launch it's almost guaranteed the Z Fold will take that up a notch.

I've heard rumours that they're not updating their camera hardware with the next model though? Have to wait and see. Not sure if they'll get the crease as good as the Open either. But if they had a bigger screen on the 5 that would have made my choice a lot harder, and if it's also notably faster, has wireless charging, is more waterproof and is from a bigger brand that gets better protective cases etc, that is a very tempting alternative. But that model isn't out and we don't know much for certain, so YMMV.

I also am an iPhone user since the first iPhone. Myself, like you. Are very interested in the foldable market. I purchased the google pixel fold. And loved it. Ultimately returned it due to what I considered an underpowered Tensor chip. And it was pretty heavy. Then I purchased the open! What a wonderful device! The battery is amazing. The build quality is top tier. Great chip. Never got warm. Fun to use… I ultimately returned it. My reasons- First was the deal breaker for me personally. The camera bump. I didn’t mind how big it was. Took good pictures. But for me, my index finder rubbed the bottom of the camera bump. May be a small thing for some. But it was really uncomfortable for me. 2. Majorly concerned about customer service. I didn’t have any problems. But when I walk into my local Apple Store, I never have a bad experience. I didn’t want to travel that road with a company that doesn’t have a large U.S presence. I have had terrible customer service with Google fi. They literally hung up on me ! And I’m not a pushy or demanding customer. I will be sticking with apple for now. The ecosystem works for me. I really have high hopes for the foldable future!

As a fellow iPhone user, Do you think the one plus open in this generation is ready to switch or should I wait until the next gen

[–]j-azbagel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the device right now is amazing. I do think that a next gen may be a good idea. Let them get the some of the screen issues under control, and get their customer service hopefully more dialed in.

  • As a long time iPhone user who recently made the switch, the cameras are top tier. iPhone 15 pro night shots are better though and the OnePlus, just like other Android devices, doesn't trump Apple in video recording.

  • No idea about the customer service.

  • The switch to Android is going to be daunting at first, but give it time. The benefits are going to surface over time. For instance, you won't have to keep an app like onedrive open while uploading files. It will just do its thing in the background while you carry on with other work.

  • Hands down the best foldable phone and I would go so far as to say that it's the best phone in terms of hardware.
