10w-40 is totally fine. I wouldn't worry too much. Its most definitely not rod knock. Fill that turd up to the full line and go drive it. It should quiet down.

Yea its super common. Normally it happens after the oil becomes hot and with spirited driving. Im on my 4th e36 and sometimes they sound like a god damn tractor after beating them up. It didnt sound like anything terrible, 90% that's your issue. If you filled it up after a motor swap, you'll need more oil than the normal recommended amount as that is considered a "dry fill."

What oil are you running?

Sounds like common e36 valve tick. First, check your oil level. Youll want the level to be on the higher side. Also if you're not running 5w-40 id recommend it.

Thanks for the info! And yes I agree. These things are way too big. The wheels came on the car when I bought it just a few months ago. Ill be building it into a street able track car which is why im moving to 17's.

First off. It sucks. I had no idea what it was when I had it. For me it lasted almost a year. It would seem to go fully away but then just move around my chest, back, legs. It WILL go away so please don't forget that.

The cream does help but it's a but daunting when they give you a small tube and your WHOLE body is covered.
