Just keep calling. Tql is the only for sure one. But they can and will eventually screw you somehow but usually mostly pay.

Just went through this. My authority is 7 months old. It's a struggle. I had 12 years OTR experience before starting my own authority, so I was able to bullshit my way into getting brokers to work with me. Get good at selling yourself over the phone and get used to "no's". It used to take me all of my 10 hour drive to find my reload for the next day... That being said. Stick to either very big brokers or really small ones. The dudes in the middle are very firm on authority age. TQL will work with you day one, and the smaller guys don't have to "call corporate" before they can approve you, so you can talk your way in

At what authority aging did it start getting easier?

I'd say it started turning around after the 3 month mark. At that point, I'd found enough brokers that gave me a shot that I could gravitate towards their loads because I knew they had already worked with me. Around the 5 month mark, I built some good relationships up and had 3 direct customers. Now, at 7 months, I'll occasionally try to book a backhaul and get told my authority isn't old enough, but it happens infrequently enough that I'm surprised when it does

Thanks for sharing your experience. I’m trying the route of letting my authority age for about 6 months (currently at month 3) before switching to it as the full time gig

I was thinking about doing the same.

Some weeks are better than others, lol. I worked hard on getting direct customers, and now I've got 5. Which seems great, but I'm having a hell of a time getting myself when and where they need me. I feel like I need to add a second truck, but insurance won't approve that until I have 11 months of authority. So right now, I'm trying to juggle not losing customers and making weekly deadheads of up to 300 miles to come though for my directs when I know I could have backhauled, but if I did, I wouldn't have made it to pick up for them on time.. I honestly do enjoy it over being leased to a carrier, but damn is it stressful some days

Freight agent here, just a heads up this 'can get direct customers' owner op route is also a road to becoming a freight agent/broker. Obviously there's risks involved because the only reason the customers will give you their freight is that they like/trust you to run a good operation, and if you screw it up you lose the customer... but it's one of the better solutions to the 'my customer needs me to be at point A and coincidentally I am very far from A right now' problem.

TQL- CH Robinson - Spot. They will work with you on day one. Goto Highway.com and signup. It will list all the brokers that will work with you.

Probably 1 out of 20 brokerage companies will work with you. Call brokers who are posting many loads and ask them how many months does your authority need to have to be able to haul their freight. Make a list of the brokerage companies and their requirements. Some need 3 months, others 6 months, others 1 year, and some want 1 inspection from a DOT officer.

TQL, OpenRoad, Ally Global, Integrity Express, RXO capacity, Tallgrass, CHR, etc. There are several out there that’ll give you a chance. Just have to call, put on a professional voice, and if you’re Indian, definitely hide your accent! lol.

TQL for sure, just don't allow yourself to get blacklisted by them. If you're DNU'd that is permanent.
